Highlights & What´s included

Overview

This immersive journey through Barcelona takes you on a seamless blend of past and present, from the city’s medieval roots to the artistic revolution of Antoni Gaudí. You’ll explore the visionary beginnings of a young architect who would go on to define the city’s skyline, tracing his steps through the Gothic Quarter before arriving at one of his most celebrated masterpieces.

We begin at Palau Güell, a magnificent mansion commissioned by Gaudí’s close friend and patron, Eusebi Güell. This early work of the architect showcases his boundless creativity, where he experimented with light, space, and materials, designing up to 25 different façade proposals before arriving at the final masterpiece. The building’s ornate ironwork, striking stone arches, and surreal rooftop chimneys mark the birth of Gaudí’s signature style—one that would later evolve into pure architectural poetry.

Leaving Palau Güell behind, we stroll along La Rambla, Barcelona’s most famous promenade, brimming with life and history. As we venture deeper into the Gothic Quarter, we uncover the city’s medieval soul, where Roman walls, hidden courtyards, and timeworn cobblestone streets whisper stories of the past. Among these historic gems, we pause at Plaça del Rei, where Gaudí’s early interventions in Barcelona can still be found—a testament to the genius that was just beginning to unfold.

From the labyrinthine alleys of the Gothic Quarter, we emerge into the grand Plaça de Catalunya, the vibrant heart of the city, and continue onto Passeig de Gràcia, Barcelona’s most elegant avenue. Lined with architectural wonders, this boulevard is a living museum of modernism, where we admire the works of Gaudí and his contemporaries, unraveling the artistic dialogue that shaped the city’s identity.

Our journey culminates with Casa Milà (La Pedrera), Gaudí’s last and most ambitious private commission. A masterpiece of sculptural architecture, this undulating stone façade defies convention, while its rooftop—crowned with whimsical chimneys—offers a breathtaking panorama of the city Gaudí so passionately transformed. Here, standing before the pinnacle of his creative genius, we reflect on the extraordinary vision that forever changed Barcelona’s landscape.

This tour is not just an exploration of architecture—it is an encounter with the soul of Barcelona, a dialogue between history and innovation, and a tribute to the artistic spirit that continues to inspire generations.

Ideally we would meet at the monumental column of Colon at the end of the Rambla, but with great pleasure we can pick you up at your accommodation. So the order of visit will be made according to your location or preference.

It could be at the end of the Rambra at the monument to colon, inside the Palau Güell or preferably in the Mila house, where the restaurant options are much more favourable and recommendable.

We can have coffee for a short break, if you are interested in having lunch, we can talk about it and add extra time.

This tour is a walking tour, but to make the most of the time and save energy, we can take a cab ride (10€) and concentrate on the most important things. The guide will arrange a cab if required, given your circumstances and taking into account the time factor, to get the best out of the visit.

Of course! In our experience, we recommend the guided tour at Casa Mila, because it is a much more representative example of Gaudi's architecture and the visit offers an overview of the 19th century bourgeoisie. We consider that the visit to Casa Batlló is very intuitive and is usually overcrowded for a sightseeing tour. In addition, they have a technology that facilitates the individual visit, however we are happy to accommodate your wishes.

Palau Güell has limited accessibility. While the ground floor is accessible, the upper floors and rooftop are not, as the building lacks elevators and has narrow staircases. However, a virtual tour is available for those unable to access the upper levels. The Gothic Quarter is challenging for wheelchair users due to its narrow, winding streets and uneven cobblestones. Some areas may be accessible with assistance, but it is not fully wheelchair-friendly. Casa Milà has improved accessibility in recent years. The main floor and exhibition spaces are accessible via lifts, and there is a wheelchair lift to access the rooftop. However, some areas of the rooftop may still be challenging due to uneven surfaces.

Curiously, we have children and we know how to charm them. The both rooftop, with its surreal chimney sculptures, feels like a playground for kids. They’ll love the imaginative shapes and the chance to explore Gaudí’s creative world. The narrow, winding streets in Gothic Quartet make it feel like a maze, which can be exciting for kids. You can turn it into a game by exploring hidden corners and spotting ancient details. Please mention if there are children in your group so that we can adapt the itinerary and approach.
