Barcelona would not be the cultural and architectural capital it is today without the vision of one of its greatest minds: Lluís Domènech i Montaner. A true master of Catalan Modernism, Domènech was not only an architect but also a scholar, a professor, and a committed politician whose work helped define the aesthetic identity of the city.
If Barcelona had no Gaudí, people from all over the world would still flock here to marvel at the works of Domènech i Montaner. His creations — elegant, symbolic, colorful, and deeply rooted in Catalan identity — are some of the most celebrated examples of Modernisme, and two of them, Palau de la Música Catalana and the Hospital de Sant Pau, are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Palau de la Música Catalana (Complete Visit – Interior)
Another UNESCO-listed gem, the Palau is a symphony in stone, glass, and light. This iconic concert hall, built for the Catalan choral society Orfeó Català, dazzles visitors with its stained-glass skylight, floral columns, and sculpted muses. It’s one of the few concert halls in the world declared a World Heritage Site — and it’s as impressive acoustically as it is visually.
Castell dels Tres Dragons (Exterior)
